New functions in response to the changing working conditions in the office

The 2N® IP Style, which was launched in June and was recently awarded a CE Pro BEST Award, will be expanded with bidirectional video, QR code and advertising display functions

2N, the world market leader in the field of Internet-enabled intercoms and access control systems, has expanded its flagship, the 2N® IP Style intercom system, with new functions and thus responds to new trends in office work caused by the corona pandemic.
The relevant trends identified by experts such as CBRE, Knight Frank and PwC are:

Most companies work with hybrid work models, but smaller companies return to the office faster than larger companies

CBRE’s EMEA Occupier Survey 2021, published in August, concluded that “most companies and almost 80% of larger companies tend to some form of mixed or hybrid work models”, where employees divide their time between the office and home, but that “over 80% of small companies report all locations as open, compared to only a third of the largest companies.” Small businesses are the least able to afford permanent reception staff who can manage access control on site.

Companies are starting to consider a “hub-and-spoke” model for their office portfolio

47 Percent of British companies surveyed as part of Knight Frank’s “Re-occupancy and Re-imagined Workplace Survey” said that they are thinking about how their employees can work closer to their place of residence, while 21 percent said that they want to operate offices close to their employees’ place of residence. A “hub and spoke” model – with a main branch (the “hub”), often in a city center, combined with field offices closer to the employees’ place of residence (“spokes”) – could be one way to achieve this. PwC’s latest US Pulse Survey shows that many American companies are also considering this approach.

Apart from the impact on employees, this would also have a long-term impact on companies that rely on office workers, especially in the retail and hospitality sectors. This could increase the pressure on companies in city centres and other work centres, while new opportunities arise elsewhere.

An emphasis on design and quality in all aspects of office buildings

The “Re-occupancy and Re-imagined Workplace Survey” conducted by Knight Frank found that 63 percent of British companies expect a greater focus on the design and equipment of their offices in view of the workplace of the future. Facilitating teamwork and collaboration is an important focus, but since employers want to encourage their employees to return to the office, they will value high quality and design in every aspect of the office environment.

The 2N® IP Style, which was launched in June and was recently awarded the CE Pro BEST Award (Best Electronics Systems Technologies) at the CEDIA Expo in Indianapolis, will respond to these trends with new features that will be added in four areas in the spring of 2022:

  • A bidirectional video function will allow visitors to see their interlocutor and vice versa. This will be especially useful for smaller companies that do not have their own reception, or for office buildings where several companies are located.
  • A QR code function facilitates the transfer of access data to couriers and other visitors. The data can be sent directly to the visitor’s mobile phone, and the intercom display will direct him to correctly show the code to gain access. In this way, visitors can be granted secure access even if no one from the company is there to receive them.
  • The existing 5 MPX Camera the 2N® IP Style is equipped with WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) technologies, so that the full image quality and identification of the visitor is guaranteed even in the dark or uneven lighting conditions outdoors. From spring, a camera adjustment function will be available, which will further increase the angular range of the camera.
  • Since companies that rely on office workers have to compete for their attention more than ever, this can 10 Inch LCD Display the 2N® IP Style can already be provided with individual backgrounds, which can be used, for example, for advertising local restaurants or shops. In the next six months, even more sophisticated advertising opportunities will be available.

Michal Kratochvíl, CEO of 2N Telekomunikace, says: “The world of work is changing, and very quickly. The 2N® IP Style was the obvious product that we had to develop, because it already sets the standard for technological and design excellence. In addition, it supports the latest and fastest Bluetooth-enabled mobile access technology WaveKey, which at the moment is very attractive for both employers and employees.”
