Inexpensive multifunction printer with ink delivery service – PCtipp tests what it is good for. […]

HP is launching the Officejet Pro 8022e, a multifunction printer that prints with four individual inks (black, magenta, cyan and yellow). The device, designed for the modern office, wants to convince in terms of printing speed, equipment and operation. Interesting is the so-called HP+ service, which the manufacturer offers to buyers. What’s behind it? If they decide to use the service during commissioning, they will receive 6 trial months, i.e. free of charge, the “HP Instant Ink” ink flat rate as well as an additional HP warranty for one year. Important: Once you decide to use the HP+ service, there is no turning back. This means that as long as the printer is in operation, original HP printer cartridges must also be used to operate the device. Others no longer accept the model.

Simple setup

In addition to the classic connection via USB, the device can also be integrated into a network via WLAN or LAN cable. Basically, the compact 4-in-1 model (46 × 34 × 41 cm, W × D × H), which is available for a street price of 175 euros, has a printer, scan, copy and fax unit. The stock of paper is 225 sheets. The output tray can hold a maximum of 60 sheets.

On the top of the device there is also the ADF unit (automatic document feeder), which in turn holds up to 35 sheets and speeds up the copying process of documents in the same way as the existing automatic duplex printing unit. The Officejet Pro 8022e can be operated autonomously with its 6.86 cm colour touch-sensitive screen. Although it is not lush with its size, it still meets, in our opinion, the minimum size. The device lacks a separate numeric keypad for input. The installation process for HP printers always follows the same scheme, and is sensibly supported with an illustrated leaflet in different languages, which is included with the device.

For the local connection via USB port, it is recommended to first use the “Installer” software “123.hp.com ” download. After that, during the software installation, the all-in-one device plugged into the USB port is already found and installed with the latest drivers or optional software components, if desired, ready. All in all, this installation takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. After that, you can already print, scan, copy and fax.

If you want to put the printer into operation via your smartphone, you can do this just as elegantly via the manufacturer’s smart app. After installation, it can then be printed or scanned by mobile phone, from the entire network. We really liked the implementation of the digitization unit: it can be scanned directly to the USB stick, in (network) and cloud folders, share point and of course also e-mail. Although the touchscreen is not exactly big, it convinces with its clear menu structure. The manufacturer has largely dispensed with nested submenus.

Top quality, good speed

In our speed tests, the Officejet Pro 8022e comes up with just good readings. After 12 seconds, the first A4 sheet is in the output tray, for our 10-page colored mixed document, which consists of text, colored diagrams, table and graphs, 48 seconds pass. In order to convert 10 sheets of single-sided printed paper to five double-sided printed sheets by duplex unit, just under 2 minutes also pass. With A4 photo printing, about 38 seconds pass until the photo, in “best” quality, was ready for us.

We have nothing wrong with the print quality: the text printout is clean, “wrong” satellite pixels around the letters to be printed are in short supply. Even oblique lines are brought astrein on a sheet of paper. In photo printing, the four individual cartridges of the model pay off. However, the Officejet Pro is not enough for a photo specialist who prints with five or six individual inks. If the automatic supply, which belongs to “Instant Ink”, is dispensed with and original HP ink is purchased separately instead, medium-priced 4.3 centimes will be due for a black and white A4 page, users will have to pay 7.4 centimes for a colored page of the same size.

Conclusion

HP’s Officejet Pro 8022e is a powerful multifunction device that offers precise and detailed office and color printing. The MFG also impresses with its equipment. Especially for frequent printers and in connection with the calculable instant ink flat rate, its maintenance is favorable.
