With “RISE with SAP”, Nippon Gases is taking its ERP landscape in Europe to the next level. By integrating various ERP systems, the company is using SAP S/4HANA to drive holistic digital transformation across several subsidiaries. […]
As part of the Japanese Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation, Nippon Gases is one of the leading industrial and medical gas companies in Europe. Almost 3,000 employees supply more than 150,000 customers, for example in metal production and metallurgy, the chemical, electronics or food and beverage industries, with these industrial and medical gases and, in addition, with gas-based solutions. Nippon Gases solutions are also indispensable in the medical and pharmaceutical sector. For example, both liquid nitrogen and dry ice from Nippon Gases make it possible to comply with the required cooling temperatures of Covid-19 vaccines in the logistics chain and during storage. This helps public and private institutions worldwide to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.
In Europe, Nippon Gases is represented in 13 countries and with more than 100 production facilities. In the past, the locations worked with a number of different ERP solutions, which meant a considerable effort for maintenance, updates and maintenance. There were a large number of interfaces that had to be kept up to date in order to continue to ensure a smooth exchange of data between the individual Group divisions. Therefore, in 2020, Nippon Gases started building a unified ERP strategy in Northern Europe based on SAP S/4HANA. In October 2021, the first location went live in the UK, and half a dozen other countries are expected to follow from 2022.
The new, standardized ERP processes based on SAP S/4HANA ensure faster and more transparent processes at Nippon Gases. This allows, for example, a better overview when tracing gas deliveries, so that compliance requirements can be met more easily. At the same time, the costs are reduced, since IT only has to manage an ERP system and requires less time for administrative tasks.
“We work much more efficiently with “RISE with SAP” and can also tackle future topics. The standardization in the new SAP S/4HANA platform will enable us to optimize capacities and focus on innovation projects – as part of our current digital transformation strategy,“ says Cesar Callejo, Chief Information Officer at Nippon Gases.
From the beginning of the project, the company receives numerous software components with “RISE with SAP”. “This gives us a lot of leeway. We can also try a lot of new things outside the core ERP system. For example, we can optimize our procurement with SAP Ariba or intelligently automate our business processes with robotic process Automation,“ says Jens Wiechmann, SAP IT Manager Europe at Nippon Gases.
