Global sales of extended reality headsets (XR for Extended Reality) are promised to explode over the next four years. According to the Counterpoint firm, they are expected to increase almost tenfold, from 11 million units in 2021 to 105 million in 2025. The adoption of virtual reality headsets (VR for Virtual Reality) accelerated in 2020 and 2021, thanks in particular to the good performance of the Oculus Quest 2 (recently renamed Meta Quest 2 after the renaming of Facebook) in the general public and DPVR and Pico in companies.
Counterpoint expects a rapid take-off in sales in 2022, the year of the launch of new XR products by Meta (ex-Facebook), Sony and especially Apple. The apple firm is reportedly preparing to launch its augmented reality glasses (AR for Augmented Reality) this year under the name Apple Glass. The product is eagerly awaited by fans of the brand. It should give the market a serious boost.
