Normally, these notebooks would have been disposed of if AfB and Interseroh Austria had not taken an initiative to rescue them. Now the processed devices of Caritas Upper Austria are used for training and teaching purposes – and even for video interpreting. […]
At the end of May 2022, the notebooks prepared by AfB were handed over to Caritas Upper Austria in Linz. Edgar Gratzer, Head of the Training Department of Caritas Upper Austria, was delighted to receive the sent devices at Café Carla. “Because,” says Gratzer, “many of our customers hardly have access to such devices. Here you can independently try out, learn and meaningfully use new applications that do not work on smartphones.“ These are all areas that increased self-employment. if the devices are refurbished notebooks, the Environmental management Officer of the EMAS-certified location St. Elisabeth is also pleased when he says: “I am glad to be able to set a nice sign here: things that are no longer so usable for others are being refurbished, and in turn offer great value to others.“
The notebooks, which are far from being part of the “old iron”, were presented by Jürgen Münzner, AfB Sales Manager Upper Austria, Andreas Schmidt, AfB Partner Manager Upper Austria, and Wolfgang Rabl, Head of Sales at Interseroh Austria, who, as a disposal and recycling partner, initiated this project for active waste prevention together with AfB.
This cooperation was established to promote sustainability through the long-standing partnership between AfB and Interseroh Austria in the field of waste electrical equipment disposal. Wolfgang Rabl, Interseroh Austria, Head of Sales, thanked AfBund and stressed: “Interseroh Austria is committed to being able to make a sustainable contribution to socially disadvantaged people. The processing of IT hardware that has already been written off also actively contributes to reducing our ‘footprint’ for the next generation.“
In the constant exchange between the experts of the two companies, it had been possible to bring notebooks that would not have been economically refurbished under normal circumstances, for example because they were already too old, back into the product cycle as part of a funded initiative to avoid waste – and at the same time to give them to a good cause on several levels.
From learning to interpreting
For example, the devices were already used during reprocessing at AfB for employees to learn and practice technical skills. In the future, the (almost) new devices will be used for training and teaching purposes at Caritas Upper Austria: for training media literacy as well as for basic IT training. The notebooks will help people with hearing impairments in the classroom by remotely connecting video interpreters. And also in residential groups of the Caritas in St. Isidor you will find a new home – for Internet research and educational games.
