The global pharmaceutical company has upgraded its cyber defense in the network, cloud and on all devices with Check Point solutions.
The Almac Group, an international pharmaceutical company, is now relying on check point solutions for cyber security in the entire network, cloud environments and at the endpoints. Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), a leading global provider of cybersecurity solutions, has announced that the group of companies now has a fully consolidated infrastructure for advanced threat defense. Products such as the Check Point Quantum Security Gateways, Quantum IoT Protect, CloudGuard Network Security and Harmony Connect are used in IT security.
Headquartered in Northern Ireland, the development and production company specialises in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The Group employs more than 6,000 people in the UK, the USA, Singapore, Japan, Denmark and Sweden. As a result of the pandemic and the worldwide switch to remote and hybrid workstations, the Almac Group was faced with new challenges in the field of cyber security, including an increased demand for VPN connectivity and throughput. The Almac Group also relies on a complex network of business-critical manufacturing and laboratory technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), operational Technologies (OT) and more.
“These technologies were difficult to secure even before the pandemic due to their age, architecture or sensitivity,” explains Stephen Park, Principal Security Information Specialist at Almac Group. “However, the problem was exacerbated during the pandemic, as more and more malicious actors targeted remote offices and devices. During this time, we also opened new sites that needed a secure connection to the Internet and corporate resources. We even moved the local email to the cloud-based Microsoft 365 and started migrating development workloads to AWS. All these changes took place at an ever faster pace and made it clear that we urgently needed more security functions and flexibility. We needed to build robust security, scale the protection of our IoT environments, and bring better visibility to management. We turned to Check Point for this and with the new solutions we now have a dynamic advantage over advanced threats.“
Check Point has consolidated and simplified Almac Group’s security infrastructure and now provides advanced threat protection throughout the organization. The solutions implemented by Almac Group include:
Check Point Quantum Security Gateway Cluster
Serves to secure the network and to provide up to 1.5 Tbps of threat defense performance with scalability as needed. Quantum DLP (Data Loss Prevention) and Compliance Blades help Almac Group to protect privileged data while ensuring compliance requirements.
Check Point CloudGuard Network Security
Provides advanced threat prevention and automated security for Almac Group’s cloud resources. The data is protected from the most sophisticated attacks of the fifth generation. Automation supports rapid deployment and automation of CI/CD workflows for developers, while unified management allows the security team to quickly and easily ensure consistent policies across on-premises and cloud environments.
Check Point Quantum IoT Protect
Enables zero trust protection for the IoT/OT/ICS/SCADA environments of the Almac Group. Quantum IoT Protect identifies all IoT devices in the network and assesses their risk. It prevents unauthorized access to and from these devices through zero trust segmentation and blocks threats to IoT devices. The zero trust policy and runtime protection can be customized for each device – so the devices are protected from the moment they connect to the network for the first time.
Check Point Harmony Connect
Provides the same level of threat prevention, access control and data protection for Almac Group’s remote users and branches without the need for local perimeter firewalls. The sites connect to the Internet and the company’s cloud resources through a third-party SD-WAN solution integrated with Harmony Connect. The Almac Group receives central control and visibility over access and data, while at the same time ensuring up-to-date security with high performance.
Rupal Hollenbeck, Chief Commercial Officer at Check Point Software , says: “We are very pleased that we can provide the Almac Group with advanced protection against known and even new threats such as the Log4j vulnerability. At the same time, Check Point’s innovative cloud-based solution offers single-pane-of-glass transparency, which eliminates the need to juggle multiple solutions at remote locations, network and Internet connections, and many special IoT devices.”
