Making cheese online, is that possible? The organic farmer Isabella Bösch-Weiss faced this question in spring 2020. In her own kitchen and with participants on site, she has often boxed together, but in front of the screens? Coincidentally, she had been part of dienetworkerinnen for a few months, a project within the framework of the EU funding program Laura Bassi 4.0. Under the direction of the ZML – Innovative Learning Scenarios of the FH Joanneum in Graz, women are working together on the digitization of their profession in this project.

For Isabella Bösch-Weiss, this meant in concrete terms: how can the cheese workshops be moved from the farm to the net? Together with the women from the project team, she developed a concept and started a trial run. The entire technical infrastructure – information, registration forms, access to MS teams, etc. – was initially provided via the project as well as the project homepage www.dienetzwerkerinnen.at provided. 7 Workshops with around 80 participants later, the project will run online cheese workshops on the farm’s own homepage www.hofwärts.at and the peasant woman guides and moderates herself.

Make your own cheese at home

Making cheese at home is possible with few ingredients and in every normally equipped kitchen – and what else is necessary comes conveniently by mail. All courses take place online. Isabella Bösch-Weiss introduces the recipe at the beginning and then guides the participants step by step through the cheese production. The prerequisite for participation is a mobile phone, tablet or laptop and a stable Internet connection. On request, Isabella tests with the participants before the workshop whether everything works technically.

Interested parties can choose from 3 different workshops and get the ingredients in advance. What else is necessary Isabella Bösch-Weiss sends by mail, the link to the online room comes by mail. In the online workshop, the three phases of guidance by the moderator, work in your own kitchen and exchange with the others alternate. Step by step, cheese is actually produced in the kitchens throughout Austria.
