Towards the future with new resilience

Increased sales, significant new business, more employees: In the second year of the pandemic, successes were recorded at all levels. After the strong growth in 2020, Ergon has deliberately invested in the further development of the company.
Remarkable achievements of a dedicated team: Sales in 2021 amount to CHF 62.1 million, which corresponds to an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the previous year.

“Our business has developed well over the past two years and we have achieved the set goals. In 2020, we have grown strongly in terms of sales and employees. As a result, we deliberately budgeted for deeper growth in 2021 and focused on the further development of the organization. I am particularly pleased about our continuously low turnover of less than 5 percent” says Gabriela Keller, CEO Ergon Informatik . This was only possible thanks to the full commitment of the 360 dedicated employees. In total, they have successfully completed 333 projects for 260 customers, including 47 new business transactions. The customer portfolio continues to be consistently and broadly supported – new projects have been added, especially in the area of public authorities.

Focus on the financial sector

Ergon proved to be a strong digitization partner for banks and financial service providers in 2021 as well. For example, in its newly launched “Open Banking as a Service” offering, Finnova relies on the Ergon solution Swiss Open Banking and security products, which are already successfully in use at a Liechtenstein bank. The Lucerne and St. Galler Cantonal Banks are creating a joint platform for digital pension provision 3a with the aim of extending the cooperation to other banks. Also strong in the collective is the Ergon payment authorization solution CardX, which is ready for SIC5 instant payments. With Bank CIC, another bank joins the community.

Expansion in the field of authorities

With several new projects for government agencies, Ergon is also strengthening its position in the government market. A significant success is the long-term mandate for the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Office of Police fedpol: In an extensive selection process, Ergon has prevailed as a digitization partner for the “Joining Forces” project in the public tender. An important milestone is the framework agreement of the German Airlock partner Thinking Objects with the procurement office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior for the supply of Airlock software licenses, software maintenance and product-related services. Another project is the practical “Blockchain Guide for Cantonal Administration”, which Ergon has developed together with the State Chancellery of the Canton of Zurich and the Blockchain Center of the University of Zurich.

Still broadly positioned

A clear strength of Ergon is the diversity. This is shown by the various projects across all industries. On the basis of the Ergon solution for order management, a tailor-made platform for the processing of orders, orders and invoices has been created for WWZ AG. Ergon has created a cloud-based production system and a hub for the Internet of Things for the Horgen-based industrial company Feller. Both are fundamental building blocks for the digital home automation solution “Wiser by Feller”. And together with the long-standing customer Axon Lab AG, Ergon is driving forward the Axenita practice software: new features support, among other things, the collaboration between medical practices and enable a more efficient workflow within the practice.

Airlock: The courage to innovate

With the Airlock Microgateway Community Edition, Ergon is breaking new ground in the sales model and launching a freemium version that developers can freely use as a basic version for application and API security in the container environment. The fact that this courage to innovate pays off is shown by the Airlock 2FA solution launched last year: this is very popular and led to ten new customers last year. Airlock is also celebrating success overseas: thanks to cleverly established partnerships, companies from Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines are among the 22 new Airlock customers.

Future-oriented projects

The innovation project “Heinzelmännli”, which Ergon is implementing together with the University of Zurich, the FHNW, recapp IT and Innofactory, also promises optimizations for everyday business. The vision: A language assistant that optimizes investment conversations, can handle all Swiss German dialects and thus goes beyond understanding words, sentences and commands. In 2021, the focus was, among other things, on the testing of acceptance, user interaction, speech recognition and machine learning language understanding as well as the analysis of machine learning model architectures.

With a patent-pending process in the field of augmented reality (AR) and building information modeling (BIM), Ergon is driving forward the digital transformation for architects, engineers and the construction industry. The aim is to have virtual models at hand quickly and conveniently via smartphone or tablet everywhere and thus to facilitate the daily work during the construction phase.
The former innovation project Airlock Anomaly Shield is now integrated as a standard in the Airlock Gateway and ensures even greater data security. It uses machine learning technologies to detect irregularities in meetings and respond to them with appropriate measures.

Investing in a modern working environment

Ergon has won the “Swiss Employer Award” for the third time. The award is based on an anonymous evaluation by employees – and therefore makes us particularly proud. Ergon continuously invests in an attractive and high-quality working environment. For example, collaboration rooms are planned in the hall rented from May 2022 in the courtyard of the Merkurstrasse 43 (M43) location. Gabriela Keller, CEO, says: “We are in a phase of further development. The way we work is constantly changing: our goal is to combine the best of both working worlds – remote and on–site. The future brings a lot of new things – we grow from it, and with it we learn. I am proud of our employees. Now we are looking forward to more meetings and to further developing our way of working.»
